Camps and excursions


​​Camps work with the APPs curriculum and allow students the opportunity to use the development skills they have been learning in class. 

The Gap SHS Camps in 2022

Year 8 Camp - Maroon Outdoor Education Centre

The 2022 Year 8 Camp will be at Maroon Outdoor Education Centre, near Lake Maroon. The camp is scheduled for Tuesday to Friday of weeks 6 and 7 of Term 2.

During the camp, students will participate in a range of adventure-based experiences including: high ropes, canoeing, aquatic activities, initiatives and a teambuilding night activity. Students will camp out in tents for one night and sleep in cabins for the other two nights. All meals are provided. Hot showers will be available for the cabin nights and toilets will be available throughout. Year 8 students will attend camp with their Connect class as follows:

Week 6 - Tuesday 24 May to Friday 27 May

  • 8A, 8C, 8D, 8E, 8F, 8I, 8L
Week 7 - Tuesday 31 May to Friday 03 June
  • 8B, 8G, 8H, 8J, 8K
The theme for Year 8 camp is "Independence and Initiative" and there will be many opportunities throughout the 4 days for students to demonstrate these skills.
The cost of the camp will be $250. Hard copy camp forms were handed out to students on Wednesday 27 April and electronic copies were emailed to parents on Thursday 28 April. Forms and payments will be due Monday 09 May (Week 4). Please be aware that we are unable to extend the deadline because we need to confirm medical and dietary information with the camp.

Additional Medical and Dietary Forms
Forms need to be completed if your child has any of the conditions or allergies described below. These forms have been emailed to Year 8 parents and are also on the right hand side of this page. If you require hard copies they can be collected from the school office.
  • Asthma Management Form - complete if your child has any asthma condition.
  • Dietary Management Form - complete if your child has any allergies to food that may cause anaphylaxis or severe reactions.
  • Allergic Reaction Management Form - complete if your child has any allergies.
  • Medical Management Form - complete if your child has any serious medical conditions.

Year 9 Camp - PCYC Bornhoffen
The 2022 Year 9 camp is scheduled for Week 7 and 8 of Term 3.

Year 10 Camp - Emu Gully
The 2022 Year 10 Camp is scheduled for Week 2 of Term 4.

Year 11 Camp - Various Venues
The 2022 Year 11 Camp is scheduled for Tuesday 21 - Friday 24 June (Week 10, term 2). As it is the final year level camp at The Gap, students are given more autonomy and responsibility for parts of their experience, including the opportunity to choose from 4-5 camp locations.
The following camps have been confirmed as options for 2022:
  • Canoe Camp - Nymboida River
  • Sea Kayak Camp - South Stradbroke Island
  • Moreton Island Camp
We are also finalising 1-2 additional camp locations.
Costs: Last year, the camps ranged in cost from $420 to $520.

Year 11 Camp Sign up
Stage 1 (Early Term 2)
  • Parents emailed with camp information to request student preferences        (1 to 3). This determines which camps go ahead.
Stage 2
  • Parents and students emailed final camp options and students sign up for camps (A camp place is confirmed by returning forms and payments by the due date.)
  • Students who miss out on their first preference can go on a waiting list but it is recommended that they still sign up for another camp to avoid missing out.
