Read. Explore. Inspire.
The Gap State High School Library supports students and teachers with their academic, social, and wellbeing needs. Its mission is to help students as they read for pleasure, explore their world, and be inspired to create. Students can access all the library's services through the Student Hub page.
Read
All Year 7 students visit the library once a fortnight in their English lessons for the Just Read program. In this program, students learn about the importance of reading, choosing 'good fit' books, and undertake many activities that aim to inspire a love of reading. Many English classes expect students to complete some reading for pleasure every lesson so it is important students always have a book with them.
All grades can borrow up to 6 books for a month-long loan. Students can find books in our library by searching the library catalogue and can borrow e-books and audiobooks through Wheelers e-platform.
Explore
The library supports students with their research needs across many subjects. We have a non-fiction section with book collections specifically for many of the research tasks students undertake in school. We also have access to the Gale High School Database and we encourage senior Humanities and Science students to also become a member of the State Library of Queensland to access their extensive databases.
We have many research guides available for different units of work through our Library Catalogue and students can access referencing support through SLASA or QUT CiteWrite. Students can also access multiple video resources through Clickview.
Inspire
Our school library hosts and is involved in many events throughout the school year that inspire students to be creative and passionate readers and writers. Some of these events and competitions include:
In-School Reader's Cup, Regional Reader's Cup, Write a Book in a Day, Principal's Reading Challenge, Kids Lit Quiz, Writers' Day Out Excursion, Book Week, Creative Writing Club, author visits and more.
Opening Hours
The library is open during the school term.
Monday: 8:00 – 4:00
Tuesday – Friday: 8:00-3:30
IT Support/Printing
IT support and printing is available in the library before and after school and during lunch breaks. To print students will need to ensure the FollowMe printers are set up on their laptops. For this and other IT needs, students can visit the IT staff in the back of the library.
