The Gap State High School STEAM course is
offered to Years 9 and 10 students as a specialist elective. The emphasis is on
extending understanding and inquiry through experimentation and project
work.
The
course was designed for students willing to take risks, challenge
themselves academically and engage in Higher Order Thinking skills while
making genuine links across multiple disciplines.
Students can elect to participate in the
program but must apply to be considered. Students must achieve an A
or B in Mathematics, Science and English and write a response as to why they
interested in studying STEAM.
STEAM is taught in a blended learning
environment that introduces students to how the Scientific method, Design
thinking or the Engineering Design Process applies to everyday life. It teaches
students thinking skills and problem solving through focusing on the real world
applications in an integrated environment.
