The Gap State High School

The Gap State High School is a co-educational independent public school which values courage, commitment, consideration, cooperation and courtesy. Our reputation as a highly academic school stems from the quality of our teaching and learning programs. Our curriculum is designed to challenge students and aims to educate the whole student. With an excellent tradition and reputation for student success, The Gap State High School has a history of strong academic performances, with students consistently achieving well above state and national benchmarks. Our vision is to educate the whole person in a supportive school community. We encourage parents to work closely with us to ensure young people in our care develop their unique potential and use their knowledge and abilities to create a better future for all.

Our specialist program, The Gap Outdoor Adventure and Leadership Studies (GOALS) aims to enhance students' personal, social and leadership capacities in order to increase their potential for life success and their ability to contribute to and lead in their community.  It is a unique leadership and personal development program which has been investigated and evaluated to have a universal benefit for all students, regardless of gender or academic ability and is particularly effective in enhancing educational outcomes, developing leadership and planning skills, confidence, self-esteem and wellbeing.

The school is recognised for inspiring excellence through selective entry into Honours programs for academic and music, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), and the volleyball excellence program. The Gap High State School also offers Vocational Education subjects, as well as the opportunity to attend the Brisbane North-West Trade Training Centre. The Centre partners with 5 local schools with The Gap High State School being the lead school, to provide specialised vocational training in the fields of Electro-technology, Engineering and Automotive. The Brisbane North West Trade Training Centre’s focus is to deliver exceptional training and employment outcomes for students.

The Gap State High School has hosted international students for over 20 years with students from Asia, Europe and South America being fully integrated into the school community. The cultural diversity created by the international students’ program is beneficial for the whole school community and allows the development of students’ understanding of global cultures. It is our vision that this understanding will enable students to develop life-long understanding, tolerance and acceptance of other cultures and nationalities.

Our brand new Sports Hall is a magnificent community asset, able to be utilized by schools and sporting clubs.  Built to the highest standards, it can cater for national standard volleyball, basketball and netball systems, weights room, cardio room and a multi-purpose mezzanine level for classroom activities or audience viewing.

Our large and dynamic instrumental music program consists of choirs, bands and ensembles. Facilities include the J. A. Robertson performance hall with a seating capacity of 750, auditorium, rehearsal rooms, practice rooms and instrument storage areas.

The Gap State High School has a unique location in the picturesque foothills of Mt Coot-tha, Taylor Range and the South D'Aguilar National Park. The landscaped grounds provide a pleasant environment for students and teachers alike, with parcels of natural bushland, rolling grassed areas and a large oval. The school draws its students from its immediate geographic area taking in Mt Glorious in the west and the Bardon/Rosalie area east..  The school is located approximately 15 minutes’ drive from the Brisbane CBD and enjoys good access to public transport.  We welcome your interest in our school.
