Why choose our school?

The Gap State High School  is focused on "Educating the whole person in a supportive local school community".  Respect for all is a guiding principle in the school and is complimented by our focus on:

  • a tradition of academic excellence, with 100% of our students receiving an OP score between 1-16, well above the state average. In 2017 seven of our Year 12 students achieved an OP1, 25% an OP1-4 and 50% an OP1-8 with 100% of our students achieving an OP1-16.

  • high achievement in NAPLAN testing

  • a unique leadership and personal development program

  • a strong system of pastoral care, which supports student wellbeing, behaviour and adolescent development

  • Year 7 students have attended The Gap State High School since 2013 as part of the "Flying Start" program

Recent recognition includes:

  • National finalist in the Australian HR Institute (AHRI) Awards for our Grow Program in 2017. In the category of Martin Seligman Health and Wellbeing Award.

  • Regional Showcase Award for Excellence in Innovation; winner 2013 for our Mandarin Chinese program

  • State Fanfare Festival Best Performance; Metropolitan winner 2010, 2012, State Finalist 2010, 2012, Grand Finalist 2010

  • National Percussion Eisteddfod; finalist 2010, Australian champions 2008, 2012

  • Queensland Government Encouraging Participation in Outdoor Recreation Award: Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation; winner 2010 for GOALS

  • QSuper State Showcase Award for Academic Excellence; winner 2010 for AMPed: Music Theory into BEST Practice - school accelerated music program

  • State Showcase Award for Excellence in Leadership; winner 2005 for Gap Outdoor Adventure and Leadership Studies (GOALS) program
