Subject selection for senior students is a well supported processes. At the core, we encourage students to consider:

  • Choosing those subjects they will be successful in; while also ensuring the subjects will challenge them
  • Choosing subjects that link to their future career
  • Knowing their pathway after Year 12 and ensuring their subjects meet prerequisite studies for courses or programs
  • Aiming for further studies to a Certificate IV level or higher after graduating from high school

Subject selection begins in Year 10 with SET Planning and Career Development programs. Students in Year 10 are supported through:

  1. Career and Transition day; more than 50 external people come to talk to student about a range of professions
  2. Subject Information Evening for students and parents, generally at the start of Term 3
  3. Parent Teacher Evenings
  4. Set Planning day; a 20 minute meeting one on one with a teacher expert to review their subject choices

During Year 11 and 12 the school offers a number of support measures to ensure students are working towards their future goals. These include:

  • Academic Reviews for students who are not keeping up with studies
  • An extensive tutorial program
  • The ability to change subjects if required; including a full range of subjects offered at TAFE and BSDE and supported through the school

A number of people are employed in the school to assist directly with subject choices for senior students. They are:
