Introducing Launch 2019, one of the first student led STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) conferences In Brisbane at The Gap State High School.

Launch is a student driven initiative, run completely by students for students. Our goal is to make technologies and learning accessible to anyone. At Launch, students are taught to apply their learning to real-world scenarios with challenging workshops, in-line with the Australian curriculum. Launch workshops are led by students that are truly passionate and knowledgeable about topics revolving around STEAM.

STEAM is an exciting and evolving field. STEAM knowledge and skills allows students to make a positive difference in the world through Innovation and creativity. Many of the fastest growing occupations and emerging industries require STEAM expertise. STEAM uses and develops critical thinking and reasoning to solve problems.

The Gap State High School has a long history of educating students to reach their potential into industries related around STEAM. The Gap High’s partnership with QUT's Step-Up program has seen our STEM students access scientific researchers and QUT's STEM Studio laboratory facilities. Such experiences cannot usually be provided at the school level. Students have not only met the challenges courageously, but also displayed a commitment to academic excellence. The course commenced in 2014 with one Year 9 class and demand for inclusion in 2015 increased by over 30%. This trend has continued for 2016 and retention rates remain at 100%. Another pleasing aspect has been the increase in the number of female applicants such that half of the 2016 Year 9 STEM group will be girls.

Whether you enjoy painting on a canvas or programming a robot, join us for a day of learning and fun on the 21st October 2019! All are welcome. Lunch & Morning Tea provided.
